Having thrown in my two cents on the latest bridgefail, the rain gave way to fog and ’twas time for a test ride. Test passed, so I ended up riding 25 miles down to Pipestone. This is the R80ST with the botched rebuild… Slipping clutch and final drive run near dry for the first fifty miles! Final drive seems to have survived, still occasional clutch slip above half throttle. Had me down to 55 MPH at the start of the ride, later went away.
I’m not confident enough to ride it cross country, but the next town or three over should be no problem. But what the heck, like me, this three decade old airhead is retired!
