After over three years of being torn apart, moved twice, and finally assembled my GS is finally whole and running. Checked the charge voltage, barely made it eventually to 13 volts @ 4000 RPM. Recharged battery, tested components, switched regulators, still no joy. Even vented on http://www.advrider.com to no avail. Then I checked voltage on the LS for comparison= no better. Yup, airhead charging systems are really that wimpy… The aftermarket Enduralast system on the ST has spoiled me!
Can’t agree with you more re: airhead charging systems. They’re notoriously inadequate. Back when I drove my ST every day in stop-and-go city traffic (with the OEM alternator), I had to put it on the charger as soon as I got home, or no go the next day. And I could only use the heated handgrips on the highway. Money well spent!
